Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist (CCIS)
CCIS credentials
The Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist (CCIS-II) credential has been developed in response to the increased global need for accessible and effective crisis intervention services and the accompanying need to provide training programs for professionals working in various community settings.
NAMA Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist standardization offers criminal justice professionals, schools, hospitals, agencies, and organizations an opportunity to upgrade their services by including certified crisis intervention professionals.
CCIS-II (Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-II) – This level of credentialing is meant for professionals who have experience working in the field of crisis intervention and management, behavioral health, schools, jails, hospitals, security, peer support, management, foster care, child and family services, hospitality, etc. A CCIS-II will develop advanced competencies in relationship building under the pressure of time along with advanced verbal de-escalation skills. This level requires a full day of scenario intensives. This certification requires at least one of the following: peer support experience, a BA degree, professional field experience, and/or volunteer/community service. 12 hours of coursework.
CCIS-III (Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-III) – Level II coursework completed along with additional supervision and successful completion of the Certified Anger Management Specialist training. This Authorized Supervision level requires approval and mentoring from CCIS-IV or V. CCIS III can assist in CCIS certification trainings and offer authorized supervision under the guidance of a CCIS-IV or V.
CCIS-IV (Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-IV) - A Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-IV is a CCIS Instructor and train-the-trainer level of certification. A CCIS-IV has provisional approval to conduct CCIS I-II certification trainings using a NAMA approved curriculum with the permission and supervision of a CCIS-V NAMA approved curriculum author.
CCIS-V (Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-V) - A Certified Crisis Intervention Specialist-V has developed and authored a NAMA approved curriculum currently in use. A CCIS-V is making significant contributions to the field of Crisis Intervention and is authorized to hold NAMA CCIS-I and II certification trainings as well as certify CCIS III Authorized Supervisor through CCIS-IV Instructor level.
